The ITC, Hardcore Channels & our Leaders

Post by mannteufel »

Further to postings by joe king, Joe A & Alex @ Playboy TV, I think the time has come to call a spade a spade and not care whose ox is gored.

One should not mention the ITC in any serious discussion! The ITC are an appointed body responsible to the powers that be, and one should never deal with the monkey in place of the organ grinder.

A stroke of the pen would abolish this odious, historic relic of a bygone age when censorship was the norm. To keep the masses down and in their place, it was and is necessary, among other things, to deny them information and knowledge. A few centuries ago, bodies similar to the ITC burnt the printing presses of Gutenberg and Caxton because these innovations threatened to bring the written word to the poor, who ordinarily could not afford the expensive parchment tomes written in longhand by scribes.

In a similar vein, by keeping verbal (i.e. spoken & written) knowledge (Science, the Arts, the Bible, Classics etc) in the elitist latin, a language not accessible to most of us, these bodies served to keep the lower classes firmly in their place.

The government of the day therefore stands accused as follows:

1. the heinous crime of censorship by use of puppet bodies (thought committees), who use otherwise legitimate legal and para-military bodies to carry out their masters' wishes.

2. the crime of oppression of its subjects fundamental human rights as verified by the European Human Rights Commission and as legislated by the European Parliament and European Court

To wit, if Taliban can be bombed for denying Afghans the freedom to access radio and TV transmissions as okayed by VOA, BBC, CNN etc, why should a bunch of largely perverted, perjuring and fornicating, incompetents illegaly deny us access to any transmissions okayed by "European Law" to which we are, like it or not, beholden.

It is the hypocrisy I cannot stand. Does back to basics mean missionary position only? And they all sat there on the green leather and watched him say those words, knowing that he was being a complete prat, to put it mildly. These are the clowns we elected to make laws? They are quite happy to be selective as to which European Law Directives they adhere to.

How come the Law allows blatant mis-representation,half-truths, untruths and the downright fraudulent and deliberate sale of a product under false pretenses, as is the case with all these mickey mouse channels pretending to be "hard"? All of you should ask to get your money back, and fight it in courts here and in Europe if necessary. I do not see how you can lose this open nd shut case.

When will we stand up for our rights? I am quite ready to stand up and fight (in a figure of speech way) now. I demand the right to read and write and watch what I please. Nobody has the right to deny me satellite access to programmes beamed from Holland, where the population seems to be quite normal despite all the "filth" on offer.

We should all boycott our wishy-washy comedy adult channel, television-y-is-not-x and the laughable non-Euro channels, get a few EURO's and subscribe to a proper hard channel abroad. Then we re-position our sat dishes ever so slightly over a few degrees (or invest in a motorised movable dish if one is loaded), and kindly inform those hypocritical oafs in Westminster that we are simply exercising our God-given rights (under Brussels & Europe), and that any action against us by the local GESTAPO (sorry Metropolitan Police; it's a lousy job, but someone has to do it)would be regarded as terrorist activity and treated as such under George W. rules.

We have nothing to lose.

An interesting well written post mannteufel. I don't have time to comment, because in the words of Dylan/Hendrix "...the hour is getting late."

Officer Dibble.

sidenote: the itc IS being abolished. it is to be replaced by a new, overarching regulatory body called Office Of Communications or OFCOM. it will replace, and assume the functions of, those existing bodies whose logos currently festoon the OFCOM holding page.

additional info:

- interesting comments about a potential territorial conflict between ofcom and the bbfc.
lots of related articles here.
