o/t ntsc video to pal video

Post by paul »

Hi there,

I'm trying to record antsc video onto a pal tape. Both recorders are ntsc playback linked with a scart socket. I can record pal tp pal, but when I try and record ntsc onto a pal tape, it does come out, only the picture is shaky.

Any advice on what to do? Do I need some other kind of adaptor or what?

Thanks,

P

yeah, you'll need a converter. its not the tape thats the problem, its the machine you're recording on. the signal from the player needs to be coverted before you can send it to the recording device.

I had this problem and raised it on the forum a few weeks ago. Had a good feedback, so do a search and see what can be done.

Although the player says to have NTSC playback on PAL TV, it actually is unable to output a true PAL signal. Instead it outputs a Pseudo PAL signal (known as PAL60 whereas normal PAL is PAL50). Most modern televisions are capable of displaying Pseudo PAL as its only 10Hz difference from true PAL. However, video recorders are much more sensitive and can not cope with the difference. Video players that output true PAL from NTSC are very expensive, probably none under the ?500 mark.
You can get a converter which will digitally convert the signal when connected between the 2 VCRS but thats about ?500 in itself, so unless you are going to be doing a lot of this copying it wont be worth it.
http://www.sonel.com/ operate from a small shop in Middlesbrough and they have designed and patented a marcrovision buster for copying DVDs to VHS. Last time I saw their site they were planning to relase a PAL60 to PAL50 converter which would probably be quite a lot cheaper. So far there are no signs that it has been released yet but you could try ringing them and see what they say. It was due for release in 2002.

Hope that helped.

Steven.

To save yourself the bother and expense, I can convert for you (?2k worth of gear). No charge. Email me if interested. Will do conversions for anyone else interested too.
