If I were a budding scotch drinker what would you recommend?
Lets say you top ten
For the record the best scotch drank..toss up between Macallan 12 year old single malt & Glenfiddich single malt(not sure of the age)
Both made me embullient for hours

Malt is all a question of taste. Glenfid. MacA. Laphroig etc each have their distinctive peaty flavour.
For pure "sipping whishkey" my own favourite is Chival Regal.
JW Black is extremely beneficial to one's health.
Where blended is concerned, once you mix it with ice/water (my own preference) or indeed, anything, it is extremely difficult to differentiate betwen brands.
I suggest a different bottle each day until you settle on one that suits you.
I've been trying for over 40yrs and not yet mastered the art.
In about one hour, I'll have my first one for you, and lang may ye reek.

Is it chivas or chival regal?
I once got involved in a drinking game at a hotel in Venice with I thought Chivas Regal(possibly chival) and i thought what a waste...gargling chivas regal for five seconds and then swallowing until you drop
He we all ended up cactus but not before we took one guy on his mattress 2 floors down and put him in the coridoor
The manager went straight to the tour guide and said 'I want you all OUt'
Her response 'If you know what rooms they are in-go for it'
They didn't keep records-hence theie reputation...Fawlty Towers of Venice
I think you're right about the myriad of choices
It takes time and there is something nice about that prospect unlike most other drinks

PS I once had a bottle of Napoleon Brandy(21st birtday present)...luckily someone bought it off me before I had a chance to drink it....I refuse to drink the stuff especially with his name attached to it
