I don't know anything about the industry, but wouldn't some form of returnable deposit stop the time wasters? If somebody wanted to book you then they could pay you a deposit in cheque or possibly paypal form (I am not sure how Paypal works so not sure if that is feasible). Once you have completed the shoot, the deposit could be deducted from your fee, or if you cant make the booking for some reason, the onus would be on you to return the deposit. I think that would stop any timewasters, and also cover any expenses (travel e.t.c) you may have incurred if the booking was cancelled. Although the filmmaker/photographer would have to rely on the model to return the deposit if she couldnt make the shoot, i dont think they would need to worry about her not returning it as the resulting bad publicity would probably cost her in lost bookings in the future. Obviously, a deposit system would need to be thought out in a bit more detail, but it is just a suggestion.

good idea.maybe when booking, the models could send half their fee and the full cost of booking the studio and the film makers/ photographers travel costs as an added incentive to turn up.then if they did turn up they would be reimbursed

hi all thanks marie for bringing this up. ima an amateur film maker who just makes films and does photography for an hobby, damn expensive one some times ( lol) but its a small price to pay. it is people like this who give us honest guys a bad name thats why i tend to give my home number and mobile number to the girl im going to hire via an email first then if she wants she can ring me direct or she can pass on her number via email to me that way she knows whos ringing, i have a couple of girls who i see and they say they have worked with pros who are still messing them around. they seem to like my honesty i suppose, and in that it gets them more relaxed and we can have more fum during the shoot, anyway hope it works out for you. and to the guys messing around cut it oot you TOOLS. take care dave

Fantasisers and time-wasters will always be a problem.

I have found the quickest way of sorting out the timewasters, danger men and swindlers from the real-deal is to ask for a reference.

If they are the genuine article, they will have hired someone you know and a quick phone call to that someone will allow you to make the right decision.

A model's best friend is not an agent or a producer but the trust in her experience and intuition.

hi i know it dont matter wat job u do believe me ive done shop work waitress etc so i do know how to deal with people i still do the occassional waitressing to help out at xmas nobodys bitching here what i was trying to say its ok for people to slag of models wen it works both ways i was sticking up for the models someone has to im not arrogant & im not rude im always nice to people shame some people arent back i said wat i said as i was fed up with reading the posts of putting models down when we have to put up with a lot of shit to like faye said before it needed to be brought up so noone is bitching here its just a fact that needed to be adressed i have some wonderful clients i have been to some wonderful places i love my job & wouldnt change it for the world
