Phil, a point I am not clear on is the depiction of certain things which are clearly acted. The best example I can think of is incest. It is not a subject I am keen on, but many German directors are, including some of the better ones. The people in the film are not related, yet it is a forbidden subject under the guidelines. Yet the depiction of murder, the ultimate crime, is perfectly acceptable. Do you think there is an irrationality here, or am I missing something?

A rather interesting point - how do you show graphic "incest" in film? I would have thought that is was only realy posible to imply incest and that surely is not illegal.

Joe be sensible. Everything has to be censored, by who is hopefully your only choice. I do understand the theory in this violence thing and I agree the BBFC have it wrong I mean what would you prefer shagged or shot. But I think within reason both are wrong. To much violence in TV/Video has proven to cause violence. There are many cases of this. Pornography has a similar reputation but it seems only to be the violent act with it like rape etc so therfore I think in both cases rge BBFC are right to censor. I do think however they are not censoring the Violence in movies enough.
I understand where you are coming from with the implied but to give you another example would be a girl saying she is 16 or younger or whatever. Even tho she has passport to prove otherwise. What was the intention to imply in the movie she was younger or in the same why imply incest.
Surely to appeal to the criminal ellement.
Keep it strait thats what I say, I wanna watch it and wank not tie up the neigbours daughter and crap on her or electrocute my bollocks, nice hirny chicks willingly getting stuffed works for me,

Nevertheless, incest is one of the subjects which is banned from inclusion in an 18R film by BBFC direction. It does seem irrational when a popular tv series has recently covered this subject before the thresehold! No one would suggest it is appropriate to show actual incest, but I can not see the difference between actors depicting incest than other illegal acts, which happens all the time. However I do agree with Phil McC that some censorship is necesssary.
