Apparently Private's Danish competitor Color Climax did seek legal advice on suing Sullivan's companies for infringement of their trademarks. (This would be back in the early 80's or thereabouts). The advice was that their case was unwinnable as although there trademarks were being infringed upon, as they could not sell their products (i.e. hardcore mags & vids) in the UK they couldn't claim that Sullivan's companies were interfering with their markets. There's more detail on this (and probably a better explanation of the legal position) in a book called 'The Sultan of Sleaze' by Mark Killick (IIRC) which is an investigation of Sullivan's life & business dealings. It's about 10 years old now and therefore not uptodate but it details numerous dubious scams of his.

On the subject of Sullivan selling softcore crap - how do you think he managed to accumulate 750 million. Just a little story from my archive of 20 or so years in this wonderful business we call 'show'. This was told to me by someone who worked for him when he first started. What punter is going to complain to the police. "Excuse me but I sent ten pounds off for a magazine that I thought was going to show women having sex with horses and I got this instead" "Yes sir, would you like to step this way" Bloody brilliant.

From my point of view, business wise, it's not good for me to give Your Choice the uncut version because that will affect my sales of the UK R18, but all the uncut versions are on my website so they are 'available' that way. Re: my biography. As I've said here before, I've had a lot of interest from respected writers, 'cos I couldn't write it, but their proposals have all been turned down by publishing companies, so no go I'm afraid. All they seem to want is 60's gangsters.

Sorry Ben I think I may have misunderstood your last post. Did you mean the uncut versions were available to buy from your site or just clips for downloading? All I get on your site is a message saying go to Vidshop or YC.

As for your R18 sales being affected by releasing an uncut version through YC I would think any customers living outside London would be forced to use Your Choice anyway because of the fact that nearly all of the sex shops are owned by Sullivan who doesnt stock any of your titles. Many areas dont have a sex shop and many people choose mail order for privacy reasons. So I figure you might see a small drop in sales of R18 but only in London.

It looks as if scenes like the ones you always filmed are going to disappear from British porn as producers start shooting to fit in with bbfc guidelines to obtain an R18.
