One idea is the email will be used to confirm who you are. After registering, details of how to post or some kind of confirmation procedure will be sent by email. If the email is invalid you can't complete the registration so won't be able to post. The email address won't serve any other purpose and can probably be kept hidden.

Like Ian P my e-mail also contains my full name which is why I withold it. Ben Dover does the same. I have a feeling that while registration may get rid of the cretins and schoolboy idiots it will also deter people with inteligent contribtions to make. Even if the e-mail address is kept "behind the scenes" people will still worry that some evil-minded trouble maker like IV could pass maicious allegations to the authorities and then every user of this forum might have Customs or Old Bill popping round to borrow thier video collection. Especially with the introduction of the new law making importing anything that wouldnt get an R18 cert. a serious arrestable ofence, in theory anyone whos ordered something as strong as a Rocco film from abroad could be nicked and whats worse is the owners of this site would be duty bound to hand over the registration details to the police.

Or am I getting paranoid?

I have to agree that it can be a bit worrying handing out your email address if it contains your name or such like, but on the other hand I think for us honest Pornsters I wouldn't have a problem with a registration process as it WOULD keep the nutters from posting, and it would also breed a bit of camaraderie between us all, as we would be exclusive members of the club...So I have to say that it would get my vote!!

P.S. If people are genuinely worried about handing out their email address, it the easiest thing nowadays to open an email account with th likes of Hotmail or other like groups!!

I am a member of 2 other forums and both have the option to either show/hide your email address. It shouldnt be hard to replicate this feature.
Also i am on NTL and they let you have 5 email addresses.I have one specifically for joining porn sites/ordering videos etc,and obviously it doesnt include my name.

You?re not paranoid at all Mr Magoo. The finest form of security is anonymity. With the best will in the world Phil & Alec may intend to keep your particulars totally private. But what if?... What if, for whatever reason, some loony far left, or right, regime came to power and they sent a crack squad of the 'Anti Social Activities Unit' round to Phil's gaff at midnight. Now, I'm sure Phil's a stand up guy, but after two slaps round the chops with a rubber truncheon, I'd wager he'd be selling his own Mother, Granny, and all the complacent forum members down the Swaney! But, on the other hand, if 'they' don't know who you are, 'they' can't fuck you.

Yes, I know it's irksome putting up with the tiresome fantasies and ramblings of feeble minded sados like 'Willy Wanker.' But that is the price of free speech. As Voltaire said "I may thoroughly disagree with what you are saying, but I would defend with my life your right to say it."

Furthermore, many forum posters who work in the industry, myself included, would feel inhibited in speaking out and telling it like it is if they thought their true identities could be compromised at some point. Then you would end up with a stale, dull forum, with brown nosers (you know who you are) mouthing platitudes on every post.

That's how I see it anyway.

Quite a few of us are reticent about using our real names, for a number of reasons, and certainly wouldn't want them displayed for all and sundry. But what Phil is suggesting sounds okay. Any of us who have passed on info to this site have already exposed our identities, and know we can trust Phil, Alec and Woodgnome with that information.
Most people agree about the importance of free speech. This is right we all have. But look at the downside as shown by this forum in the last few months:

1) IV and Gradgrind, the Hinge and Brackett of the site, threatening to pass details of video dealers on to the police and thanking any of us who recommend any particular dealer for giving them more ammunition. These two we could well do without.

2) Someone impersonating Layla-Jade and giving details of a non-existent show, probably in the hope of turning people against her. Why? I don't know and don't care. That kind of contribution we can do without.

3) The continued sniping and carping at the people behind this forum. As has been pointed out, these folk are doing this on a part-time basis. They do have lives outside the forum and should be thanked for their efforts, not criticised.

4) The continued attacks on models, and particularly ones who contribute to the forum. Why does someone whose only connection with the industry is reading mags and watching videos feel he has the right to prevent someone who works in it from having their say? Why should they make attacks on the models' appearance and/or morals? Wendy, Layla-Jade, Rebekah, Chanta Rose and all the others have opinions, they have insights, and they know stuff that the ordinary punter wants to know. Give them the chance. (I realise I've made comments on implants and so on before, so this is quite hypocritical; but I was expressing a point of view. In the end how a model looks is up to her).

5) Spam. Complaints about it are pointless. If Alec, Phil and Woodgnome think something constitutes spam, it will be deleted. Because of the info received from some sources, posts about sites will sometimes be kept as a quid pro quo. There's a simple solution: if you think someone is using the forum for their own self-advancement, ignore that person's messages.

6) Nutters. We like to think that we're all sane, reasonable people. But there are nutters out there. I once met a real sadcase who claimed he's been shagging a barmaid for an hour before realising she was dead (he hadn't and she wasn't). That kind of mental illness reminds me of our friend Willy Wonker. If what TM Video claims is true, this guy should be locked up. From his irresponsible claims (see elsewhere; I'm not going to repeat them), it's obvious that he doesn't care how many people he's frightened. If for no other reason, some kind of registration is needed on this site to keep creeps like him out.

I'm all for free speech, but you'd have to be the blindest and wooliest of liberals to allow a Nazi to hold a rally outside a synagogue. This forum is a broad church, with all sorts of diverse views that provoke debate and sometimes anger. A forum needs that kind of healthy debate to stay alive. What it doesn't need is the mental illness of WW, the misogyny of others, and the sheer nastiness of someone no longer with us.
Go ahead with your registration plans, Phil. In the long run, it'll be for the best.

Regarding peoples concern over identity.

As long as you can hide your email, then only the moderators will know who you are.
Secondly get a secondary email address that doesnt have your name in it.One of mine is 'northbank'.
The moderators will know this but to find out who you are, they would have to contact your ISP.Most ISP's would tell them nothing.
In the end its not as though were planning to kill the Queen anyway.I doubt if interpol are really that interested in a bunch of guys talking about adult movies!!!!!!!

Phil,i say go for it.

Re: Email Address Worries

Good points made by both sides but I am in the unfortunate position of not being able to pick and choose my e-mail provider. An anonymous Hotmail address is out of the question. Even though we have nothing to hide it is worth remembering that anything without a bbfc certificate (99% of the films listed on this site) cannot be legally sold here so whilst the punters have nothing to fear from registration (apart from possible aggro from anti porn nutters) I think that the industry folks with thier memories of police problems and prison sentences may become a lot less willing to openly discuss what they do. It would be a shame if they all went away. A lot of people are quite naturally worried that even though things are getting more liberal the authorities could change thier minds and start a crusade against pornography.

Enough about Email addresses

Post by toXin »

There is no doubt that the best message board system on the market is called UBB (Ultimate Bulletin Board made by www.infopop.com)

UBB is in use all over the adult web: it contains all the features described above (username/password required, email only visible to admins, ip address banning etc etc). It is similar to the one that Ben Dover has on his site.

I'd like to see mutiplte forums - eg a General Forum for chit-chat, a SPAM forum for Krome, an Off-topic forum for the escort lovers...

this is a great idea, just use the email to confirm who you are. I would have no prob at all in giving alec and phil my email and i don't really see y anyone else who is here alot should. My only fear is that I don't think you can ever make this forum free from dickheads. They can just get another email from countless free email services and use that. I think your time (alec and phil) would be better spent deleting shite posts - perhaps employ afew of the regs to vet what goes on - that post about rape stayed up far to long for my liking, but i guess you guys cant be here all the time. I've said this before, but i think you all do a great job.
btw: off topic - just got back from Brixton Ac, whet to see Alabama Three - the fucking best band in the world at the mo. - Trust me!
