Your never going to beat the pirates but you can make an example of a few in court if you've got the money

Theres currently a push on in Australia to take a few pirates down

Its estimated piracy in OZ makes up 80%(believe it or not) of total sales

cheers

What to do about pirate copies is put the money into production, instead of concentrating on something you'll never have control over, we have an oriential guy who comes into our shop every week, (along with every other shop on the high road), with more bootleg mainstream (& porn) DVDs than you can shake a stick at, I run a legit video shop, original VHS still cost me around ?50 with DVD having a window on most (meaning a rental only version is released first, usually with no features) read the news, its all triad controlled, you wanna take those nutcases on? not that I buy the fuckers of course, just like everyone else on here, who never buys pirated material, with DVD its even easier to copy a DVD than a VHS, we had a case in our shop where some slag was opening the VHS cassettes and swapping the spools we prosecuted the fucker, but it ended up too much time & energy (and ?) which could have been spent on new product, don't tell me some hessay at your local bootsale is affecting your sales producers by selling a few synde copies of your films, its well known that a hell of a lotta guys who now produce films on here started of selling films door to door, and dont tell me they wasnt pirating US studios stuff, seems theres one rule for one, and one for another on here. and too many pricks prepared to jump on the bandwagon and say they never buy a bootleg DVD or VHS, bullshit, you wanna see a "preview" copy of the latest Harry potter film?...exactly

I sometimes buy pirate copies for the following reasons.

1.They are cheaper, sometimes a bit and sometimes loads.some legit companies charge too much.
2.Often you get a better service, faster delivery and more choice.some pirates even have well set up websites,or at least mail you a simple excell spreadsheet.
3.finally,you know what you are getting.none of this R18 stuff (whatever that is)no buying a film and its something else (sunday sport) no grubby sex shop (and ridiculous prices).

The thing is,pirates have no reason to rip you off,if they do you go somewhere else.if they do it right they can make shed loads,so why not try to offer the best service possible.most films come within a couple of days.

Dont get me wrong,i do buy legit films too,(my collection is about 50/50)and its not just about price, one of my gripes is about lousy websites and poor service.

Its about the whole purchasing experience.

I agree with Everhard. The soon these ridiculous restrictions (point of sale) are removed from R18 the better you guys will be.

R18 will be regulated on adult services by Feb/march 2005. It's up to the shops to push for the BBFC to make R18 to 18 certificate.

I can just see it now, the "porn mafia" giving a some pirate a visit on e bay or something, what you gonna do? turn up on there doorstep? give them a slap with some double ended dildos???
I've owned/ ran legit video shop/s for years, and the real pirates are the companies that charge a fortune for the absolute shite the claim to be productions, and now, with licensed sex shops, like harmony, charging ?20 for "vanilla" crap evil angel dvds, with no features, and vhs picture quality dvds, when you can buy a superb feature packed evil angel title on line for about a tenner less if you shop around, everyone on this forum either regulary does, or has bought pirated porn or mainstream dvds, its ok to jump on the bandwagon regarding brit porn, but what about US studios product/ which suppliers in the links are openly pirating? many of these feature brit talent dont they? so whats the difference?

The time may come gentleman where you can buy porn direct from the producers for less than the price of a pirate copy but rather than steal anyones thunder, I'll let that man step forward with his announcement if and when he is ready...Thing is, he's out in Vegas demonstrating this stuff and if it goes to plan, no more exorbitant fees to the BBFC (ha-ha-haaaaah!)

Pirates are here to stay, there's not much we can do. I don't see the point of taking people to court in this business. I think a polite word is in order first and then if anyone takes the piss further, then more forceful measures are called for...Like turning over tables, stamping, huffing and puffing and if that doesnt work...Well, I'll be careful what I say further in case I incriminate myself

I know of a pirate who got rolled by someone on this very forum and probably took his booty with a bit of cash for the trouble too...A bit extreme yes but as my old man used to say "Don't do the vice if you can't pay the price"

I do like the idea of setting up a governing body of our own though, may have to have words with a few producers. it's a full time job in itself and I'm not sure if it's worth the effort as you remove one problem, there is another 10 waitng in the wings.

I leave for Ls Vegas at 7.30 Stand no 362 at Internext and Topcat stand at AEE if you wanna meet up, Nice one Terry and spot on, from the producer direct to the punter, on demand, live streaming as well. All the big movie companies will go streaming within a couple of years, its really hard to pirate and why bother when its about a 5er to watch the movie at home. IP Television is the way forward. I have quietly secured our stake in all of this and I have the contracts signed by the biggest VCF servers so withing weeks we will go live. are the boys they will have Real/Windows and Flash streaming so Terry's movies can be watched on PC/Mac/PDA's and even mobile phones.....Believe me guys this all works the first adult portal will be at no BBFC, no Ofcom, no Fiker to tell me I am obscene naked on a moped or when my girlfriend cums she squirts piss so she is a freak,,,,,
On a second note signed the contacts with Topcat this week to launch my MX sex toy virtual robotics, from DVD it will control via bluetooth a sex toy......so when the girl on the screen touches the cock on the screen with a vibro you get the same feeling on your cock inside one of Topcat lovely new range of sextoys...True Virtual reality...and it works. I am still packing so I need to work...more news on 14th when I am back. or watch us steal the show at Vegas....o and that mad Welsh chix Bev Cocks is putting henna tatoo's on everyone with my web-site and password on them.

Finally sorry Blueprint has taken so long but We will put it out end of Jan after the Broadcast show 25th, we have a stand at it as well. Earls court video forum email me if you want an invite to go and see us and everyone else in the camera/lights/sound industry... namedrop me and you will get on the trade list,

Phil McC

IP television is the way forward?

Personally i still prefer the old dvd and television. From what i've seen of live streaming, downloadable films etc in terms of image quality, ease of use, functionality etc it still has a long way to go.

Look at mainstream films, its still the old tv and dvd.
