I agree that pirating damages the industry and deprives people who work hard of a true reward; however I don't believe it keeps prices high. If all the pirates disappeared tomorrow then the honest producers would get the custom they deserve, but there still wouldn't be any proper competition to drive prices down. What will bring prices down are:
1. More videos getting certified so their distribution isn't controlled by 'outlaw' operators; and
2. AN opening up of R18 availability beyond licensed sex shops.

This is purely an economic argument, like the cost of hiring a model. All prices, believe it or not, are decided by the customer. If customers think a price is too high, and don't buy as a result, then either the product will be withdrawn, or the price will come down.
The best example of this is music CDs. They cost about 50p to produce, and sell for around ?15.00. Yet some producers in the Classical market are making money selling for ?3.00. If customers had more nous they would stop buying music CDs which cost more than ?5.00, and very soon the prices would tumble.
When it comes to models I pay between ?250.00 and ?300.00 a day. I refuse to pay more, and it is noticeable that the models always advertising to get more work are those who charge too much. They learn eventually, or go out of business.
In the porn market, there are sadly plenty of people in Europe who are prepared to pay ?30.00 for a video, and at this price the producer can afford to sell just a thousand or two and turn a profit. What we need is somebody prepared to pile 'em high and sell 'em cheap, but most people in porn aren't in it for the money. They're there to shag the girls, and they would far prefer to make lots of films, shag lots of girls, sell only a thousand per title, and make just enough to pay to make the next title. And can you blame them?

It's all about barriers to entry. No true competition. That's the economics of it.

The reason porn is expensive is because those who are willing to provide you with this service risk the loss of their liberty to which there is no price limit. So my advice to you is shut up and pay up otherwise have the balls to lobby your MP to have the law changed in your favour...
