I was out at a birthday bash on Saturday night when a girlfriend of a friend got a bit tipsy and railed on about not understanding how me and my partner can do what we do and not have issues with it.
10 years ago I had the same issues that civilians have to their partner and themselves working in this business and welcomed the chance to expalin to her that she shouldnt try to understand why we can and she can't and the fact she cant means that she shouldnt ever in case it shatters her world perception on things and needs counselling.
Porn has taught me a lot of things about myself and personally I have transcended the restrictions of jealousy and insecurity that are to be found in a lot of people in "normal" society.
To me, it is work and while you can have fun in this business, your life after it is totally different which is why I can understand people in this industry relate better with those who are in it. But it doesnt mean we are devoid of the emotional trappings of those in civilian life.
Truth is I see more hypocrisy in civil life than i do in porn which is more honest in alot of its motives: Lust, power, greed, selfishness. Whatever you are as a person this industry will define you for what you are.
I can equate the same to religion (if you take it by its meaning- is a way of life in itself). You see all these so called God fearing people, trying to do right by the Good Lord himself but are the first to flout the rules when it comes down to it.
Its funny but the best hoochies in this business usually come from a religious, Jehovahs witness back ground. You have to ask yourself why is that?
I think deep down, we all know the answer lies in repression. Porn embraces everything in all its fucked up-edness and doesnt judge...But the one thing everyone wanting in on this business is: Beware of what you really want, as it may very well find you before long and then it depends if you really want to be stood up and counted with the rest of us.
Thats the difference I guess between them and us. Sorry to sound a bit cryptic but I'm sure some of you may get what I'm trying to say.
I'm sure most people have their own reasons and philosophies on this business and no way should my view be taken as a general one with regards to everyone else in it.
