The sex is shite in a lot of foreign films. Alright, the girls are beautiful because being a porn actress is a good way to make serious money in, say, Hungary...but because they're just in it for the money the sex is often cold and dull.

I'm going to be controversial though, and agree with you that too many Brit producers do stick to the gonzo formula that Ben made; many of them are, it's true, poor imersonations of the original. Ben's still doing it with style and wit, but a bit more variety would be welcome. Producers should be more willing to take a risk on originality -but then, it's easy to say that when it's not my money...

I think in terms of variety of what's available (other than piss/scat/animal stuff) US porn leads the way. Shame their girls are so disinterested. Maybe the ideal combo would be European looks and strength; American variety and plot; British wit and attitude.

I notice in the original post that I was kind of excused from this discussion, which was nice, but I am asked this question on a regular basis. Firstly to answer one of your questions re: higher budget movies, I directed shot and edited the first 7 Private movies with a completely British crew, and have done the same for other big companies all over the world. Frank Thring works for 2 or 3 foreign companies doing big budget films and Freddie Morse and Trevor Watson do a lot of the Private movies now, so the Brits are well represented worldwide. I've asked VCA about doing a big budget Ben Dover movie and they said no. It's all about trends and figures. The Ben Dover line outsells most of VCA's big budget movies so their attitude is if it aint broke don't fix it. Most of the profit from the BB movies come from the lucrative worldwide hotel/cable market, not from hardcore sales. I went off big movies simply because of the extra work involved, trying to do dialogue, making sure that you don't get any light stands in shot etc, and it's easy to lose sight of what you're doing; i.e. filming some young piece of totty getting a good seeing to! I think gonzo is much more interactive and intimate, and at the end of the day does it matter where it's shot as long as the sex works? As my good friend Pussyman said to me "Remember, at the end of the day nothing else matters. It's all about pussy man"
