With enormous respect, it is amazing what you can do with quite cheap lighting if you are prepared to spend a bit of time experimenting. Some form of diffusion is highly desirable of course, and white walls/ceilings are a godsend for this.

The most important thing is to have enough light; most amateurs don't realise that video cameras tend to have the same sensitivity as 100ASA film, and need the same amount of light for the best results. Sure they can produce images at quite low light levels, but at the expense of quality.

You may have had the luxury of professional gear, but it doesn't mean there is no other way.

Go out and buy Anna Span's book 'Erotic Home Videos'
Its got a whole chapter on lighting quite apart from being an excellent read with great pics.

Budget method

With respect to you George, ?60 a day for three flood lights isn't really a luxury budget but will get pro results. I appreciate the difference between amateur productions and pro productions, but there's also the difference between something that looks (and sounds) watchable and something which is just terrible to watch.
