I guess to write meaningless pop drivel you don't have to look the part
The Bee Gees being the exception-wish they'd just stuck to writing rather than performing

He started as an engine-cleaner at some depot in M/C, and his dearest wish was to become a driver.....alas, the depot soon closed (cheers, Dr. B......), and he had to find other gainful employ.
He's actually rather a bright bloke, don't you know......
