hm hard to compare guitarists really cos they all had dif effects, i havent found nething by jimi i cant play yet but eric and paige prob have q. a bit....tho ppl like van halen even harder...its mostly just hard chord changes nothing major so hence they could prob all play nething but u have to look at their influence...all unmeasurable....tho lets face it paige was worst songwriter out of the lot of them plagiarising bastardooo....

Clapton and Hendrix are slags. Pure and simple.
Granted both were innovators and led the way, but that was eons ago. Page was great......but in his time. As far as Im concerned, and don't all bang on about this, as being a pretty good guitarist, I do know my stuff (and fully expect Axeman to contribute to this) But I rate
Joe Perry (Aerosmith)
Eddie Van Halen
Joe Satriani
and above all, a little known genius who died much too young, Randy Rhoads.

All these 'new guys' around have all the riffs, chops and tapping/hammers pretty nailed, but nothing really THAT new.

no new guys have ANY riffs Ace...thats my major complaint yet inspiration at same time. dunno which ones ur thinking of but nothing in last 10 years has been particularily good. i personally rate ppl like Jerry Cantrell (alice in chains) chris cornell (soundgarden, audioslave), guns n roses, pantera, metallica that kinda early 90s late 80s rock, cos their riffs are the pinnacle and thus great songs....genuinely think most are better than the 70s and 80s stuff even tho thats their influence :S....

van halen has gotta have it tho...think between him and michael jackson they defined an entire decade of music, i think ne one who creates a new sound has to be listed so the metallica/megadeth guys gotta get a mention...nu metals just that without the power replaced with rumbling
