Le Grand Eric without a doubt, even though he was an arse.

Other worthwhile nominees are Zola and the non-Flying Dutchman (Bergkamp), Schmeichel, Molby and Grobbelaar. I always thought Jesper Olsen was brilliant in the 80s although the greatest ever import has to be Uwe Fuchs (if you have to ask then you know nothing).....

I'm biased being a gooner but surely there can be oinly one, Viera. All the above mentioned players are very good I agree but there was hardly ever interest from any big clubs about buying them. Ask Alex Ferguson, Real Madrid, the Milans who the best player is and they will all say Viera without a doubt! Oh, or Forlan.

Vieira is always whittering on about being tired...big Jessie....last season he even got kicked out of a game by Phil Neville....he isn't the tough guy people reckon he is, a good early kick and Vieira will either hide or foolishly seek revenge. Arsenal would be mad not to sell now and buy someone like Scotty Parker.

Gianfranco Zola gets my vote. A world class player who probably did more than any to counter the charge of the mercenary foreigner. An all round good egg in my opinion.

Paolo DiCanio on the other hand is a Lady's front bottom. I was so glad when West Ham got relegated (sorry any hammers fans out there) after all his hystrionics when he scored that winning goal near the end of the season. Maybe someone should have told him that his club wouldn't have been in a relegation battle if slags like him got their finger out and played every game instead of just the glamour fixtures. Git!

Zola, followed by Ardilles. Both players were regularly applauded by opposing fans... that says more than all the millions that ManUre, Real or Milan would be willing to spend on Viera.
