its ironic just reading your post ace i saw a girl being terroised by teenage thieves trying to pinch her purse theres nothing i could do there was at least 5/6 of them.no police around today usually its chock a block full of them.

No excuses, you should have waded in Steve, after all, they were teen thugs. Teens who 'try' to pinch a purse are gob-shites who roam like wolves in packs as you described. No weapons, just a gang is intimidating. If I'd have been there, I would have administered a slap, and who knows, maybe the lady in question may have shown some 'appreciation'
