Can't say I watch any soap (except perhaps the increasingly soapy Bill), but you'd have to be blind not to be aware of the characters---particularly given the infatuation with them by much of the great unwashed, not to mention the tabloids/"popular" magazines.

Have you noticed that Corrie is supposed to be near Manchester yet there is never any talk of football in the Rovers Return at least not when I have been forced to sit through an episode instead being busy on my computer.
