Re: the dirty dozen
I'm confused. My point about 'Battleground' is that US war films don't have to be crap like Saving Private Ryan. The conflict featured in 'Battlegound' is about the Ardennes counter-offensive by the Germans in December 1944 to January 1945. It does not have or need any reference to any of the Normandy landings. And of course it's about a US platoon as it was the US army that was caught cold by the German advances.
Though fictional, it has the merits of semi-documentary style. It is , I think, a stunningly good film. If you want to relate this to Montgomery, the action he took to push back the Germans and reduce potentially greater US losses was always resented by the US military, especially that clown Omar Bradley a four-star general who NEVER WON A LAND BATTLE IN THE WHOLE OF HIS CAREER.

You do know, I hope, that Sutherland is actually a Canuck, unless he has taken American citizenship, as was Raymond Burr (Perry Mason, Ironside).

Re: the dirty dozen
Bimmercat, can you explain to me why American service personnel always seem to have a chestful of medal ribbons?. Do they get one every time they change postings in the States, say an airman transferring from Edwards AFB to Andrews AFB?. I ask this because in the film A Few Good Men Tom Cruise in his part was asked how long he had been the Navy to which he replied a year. Yet he was sporting a ribbon on his chest. How could that be???

Re: the dirty dozen
Lets face it how many movies show the Americans to be looters & pillagers during war
Kellys heroes comes across to me as a very flippant comedy apart from this serious undertone
The one group that never gets talked about in the aftermath of a war are the civilans who survive it
cheers

I forgot about Glenn Ford, real name Gwyllyn Samuel Newton Ford, he's now 87 (birthday May 1st). He made his first film in 1939 and his latest in 1992. Thers is also Paul Massie and the late Raymond Massey
