At least you can admit to them. I have similar comforting demons in my head. And as one ages, socially illiberal thoughts dominate and become the norm. Just like the chronological shift from left to right for many people during their lifetime.

And Giles, please read your postings again. You want to give racists and bigots some form of medieval torture and them have a blast at Jew, Asians and Pakistanis because you've had unfortunate experiences with them. Careful old son.

Tough one, Giles. My IF (Inner Fascist) instinct would be to give him a slap. And then it's my arse in the sling. Report him ? What would Plod do ? My arse would be in a sling again for 'wasting their time'. But I couldn't let it pass.......... I'd have to say something, even if it incurred the wrath of a young male British teenager, the budding flower of a generation.

While a card-carrying libertarian, I reserve the right to impose the death-penalty upon anything which even slightly annoys me.
That's a whole lotta dead people............and not a few inanimate objects.

try re-reading your own posts. you speak of your experiences with some jewish and asian people and then draw general conclusions about ALL asians and jews: "I don't trust Asians or Jews and that's based on my experience of sharing houses with them..." what? you've shared houses and had dealings with with every single asian and jewish person on the planet? that's the only logical conclusion to be drawn from your defence.

the above paragraph suggests that you're happier examining motes in the eyes of others, rather than the beam in your own. when you hold or express disparaging opinions about entire peoples simply because they belong to the same race or ethnic group as some dodgy individuals you've had the misfortune to encounter - THAT is racism, whether you care to acknowledge the fact, or not.

i'm not accusing you of being a dyed-in-the-wool racist - it's obvious from other, more positive, comments in your posts that you're not. but i do think you have a flawed understanding of what racism is and how, consequently, it can infect even the most right-thinking of us when we're off guard.

re. magoo's remark - i'm sure he'll have a good laugh at the notion of his having received preferential treatment at my hands.

I have been in Asia five times and visited the Asian part of Turkey, the Asian part of Russia, Mongolia, South Korea, Japan, China, Taiwan, Hong Kong. Macao and Malaysia. I enjoyed almost every minute of my visits. I hardly met any people who were unfriendly or dishonest.
I don't know what an 'Asian' means to you. But if you try to tell us the Turks, the Arabs, the Indians, the Chinese, the Vietnamese, the Japanese, etc. are unpleasant people, all of them, you are plainly being ridiculous.
