Understandable Bimmercat

AC/DC were really Scottish when you get down to it just holidaying in Australia

As for INXS...really an Eighties band that had more appeal in the US of A than downunder.....their late seventies offerings were pretty bizarre

We are the Vegetables says it all

There's a major piece on Zappa in this month's 'Jazzwise' and very good it is too. But for me Zappa's great days were in the 60s. One of my favourite pop albums ever is 'Cruising with Reuben and the Jets'. Anyone remember that ?

Not a big fan of the Tubes, steve, but I loved their single 'Prime Time'.

I always found Styx a little bit too perfect....Babe was the standout

Like you say beautiful positive music which showed real talent

I read a whil back that they were along with Toto & Journey huge in Stadium Rock but appeared a little bit arrogant by truning their backs to the audience...True or false?

Yes AC/DC were formed in Australia but the Scottish Influence is unmistakable

INXS were still popular in OZ but nowhere near as popular as in the states

The reason some artists hit the big time and others don't is purely down to luck and what the Record Companies think is going to sell.Thesedays its all image and little musical substance...blame MTV imho...where as in the recent past you had to play umpteen live gigs to get noticed now its get seen on TV and get picked up

Talent will only take you so far

Given that todays record companies are pitching their product mainly at the 10 to 25 year old market its safe to assume a band like Styx won't ever see the light of day again

cheers

Judas Priest.....Yes.....had more songs(9 I believe) in the top 100 heavy rock/metal songs of all time...had a truly unique sound epitomised by Epitaph....talent to burn

Iron Maiden.....Hell No...made the mistake of buying a special import of Number of the Beast...2 CD set

I agree MTV originally was brilliant but overtime it has become too powerful

We have a program called Rage on our ABC TV Channel(Govt funded) 12.00pm Saturday Night-6.00am Sunday Morning....it often plays clips from 70s/80s/90s with guest musos acting as host...because there are no financial goals to meet you get a good cross section of everything not just what the advertisers have paid MTV to push

Its not suprising that MTV holds little interest as its being used as a marketing tool towards the youth. They're the ones who have no responsibilities and are easily fleeced of money.

Just take a look at the records you bought in your youth
Some good but a lot of utter crap-slick marketing has always been around aimed squarely at the teenager since MTV came about

cheers

The Tubes were fucking amazing, I have them on The Tube from 1983 (TV Show) Vocalsit Fee Waybill used to shock audiences with his cock sticking out from his shorts ala Iggy Pop. I remember Mundo Bondage from the top of my head, but the whole act was amazing.

The West London of my youth is now on dvd
