I live near the Suffolk/Cambridgeshire border. We're plagued by the bloody Gatso curse, even on some B roads accros the fens.
The 'MAD' guys seem very active tho, we get lots of news reports about the latest Gatso 'vandalism'.
So far they've been, chainsawn down, ripped out in toto, blown apart, shot out, burnt out, painted, drowned, beheaded, hooded as broken & buried.
Seems that they're popular as ever!

As a general rule it's always wise to examine every bit of evidence and paperwork to ensure everything is correct. In the old days, before fixed cameras, I was nabbed by a little knobhead with a handheld camera. I got off because he spelled my surname wrong on the ticket.

Alternatively, get one of those redar detectors. I was sceptical about them until I saw a mates in action over xmas, now I want one if I can find one that doesn't require a windoze computer.

I don t think we really have them in Norfolk you know. The only ones around my area in a 10 mile radius I can think of are two on one road which is a 60mph limit anyway because its a big open main road (but dangerous__). Maybe the odd one on the way to Norwich but apart from that we seem to be pretty lucky around here. Ive certainly not seen any in a 30mph - only those things that flash at you like demented Christmas Trees.......SLOW DOWN!

"i'd like to know what speed you need to do past a 30 mph camera before its more than 60 quid and 3 points?"

my understanding is that more than 30mph over the speed limit and its supposed to be automatic court appearance and a very probable ban but I could be wrong

I wonder how many people out there are running different plates on their cars? Thus the speed camera takes a shot of the car but it can't be traced as the plates are false. Interesting....

Them flashy slow down things are bloody lethal, when they first put one up near me I didn't know about it until 3am and it scare the wombats out of the cave with me.

Also wasn't there something mentioned about having the signs but no Gatso?, because near me in Mansfield Woodhouse there are quite afew signs on the main drag but no cameras.

We got both kindsa music here. We got Country and Western

Been talking to my traffic cop buddy.

He reckons that he's got to go and do speed checks on a road identified by the local authority as being dangerous, even though in his opinion there's nowt matter. The speed limit of 30 or 40 or whatever is stupidly low, and although drivers are going at a sensible speed, they're over the limit. He had no discretion and is directed to be there.
Having once sat on a local road safety committee for a short time, I can understand this, as membership was made up of local busy-bodies with nothing better to do, and those horrendous folk, the elected ward councillors, who like nothing better than the sound of their own voices, and sit and talk bollocks all night... claiming expenses of course!

Speed checks in the right areas I have no problem with. Sitting there with a camera knocking off folk at 33mph on a wide straight road in a semi-built up area is ridiculous, especially when doing 29mph through say a busy market place would still be below the limit, but present far more risk.

But let us not forget.... the anti speed campaign is Government lead... something else to thank Tony for.

And there isn't an apostrophe in the plural of camera.

Cheers!

I hate speed cameras, speed ramps, street furniture, speed coppers with or without radar guns, gastso cameras, they can ALL fuck off, to a man! what about those annoying cunts who constantly drive at 30mph, even when they dont have to...FUCKAS! FUCK FUCK FUCKAS! they should get a ticket for going too slow in a de-restricted area, bastard nancy-boys.

Im not denying that speeding can be dangerous but how many times is it just convenient to blame speed when in many cases it may have been a contributing factor but not necessarily the real cause of the accident?

There are many things that cause accidents and in many cases where speeding is balmed I suspect it has more to do with the drivers lack of ability or driving beyond the capabilities or the vehicle rather than speeding on its own but its just easier to blame speeding.

Personally speaking I think exceptionally slow drivers are more dangerous than fast drivers and I am not ashamed to admit that I am a serial speeder but only on A roads and above. I try and keep to the speed limit in towns and built up areas as much as I can but sometimes it just quite simply is not possible to drive at 30mph.

As for cameras only being sited at accident black spots I could name 10 places off the top of my head in the midlands alone where they are placed on straight parts of A roads or dual carriageways purely to generate revenue and likewise coppers sitting beside such roads cos they know they will catch people - I dont have an issue with this as such cos when I speed I know I am breaking the law whether I agree with that law or not but its bollocks for the politicians and co to claim cameras are not revenue generators!!
