They were probably the best band I ever booked at university (and I booked The Police, The Jam, Stiff Little Fingers and a whole host of others).

Nowdays I represent their tribute band (The Men in Black) who are almost as good! (Nah! they're not bad, but NOTHING will ever be as good as the real thing!)

Jet Black & his son dabbled in ice cream sales, so when they needed transport to early gigs (Hope & Anchor, 100 Club) ect they would travel from Guilford in Jets Ice cream van.

Hughs Book "The Stranglers Song by Song" is a direct contrast to the "No Mercy" biography (Jets memoirs) and it is apparent that there are very big rifts between Hugh & Jet.

Cool Bob...remember "Rock goes to College" on the Beeb, the Stranglers
set was pulled as Hugh insisted on wearing his "Ford" "Fuck" T-Shirt.
They may have been old men, but they had more punk attitude than most of the fashion victims claiming to be punks.

Hi Steve ....Yes you are right Hazel was seeing Hugh just prior and after his 3 month stay in Pentonville prison after being caught with a veritable chemists shop of various mind altering substances.
In fact she featured on the Live "Stranglers and Friends" concert in support of Hugh.
Its a great album and features such artists as Ian Drury, Jake Burns (SLF),
Robert Smith (The Cure), Toyah, and even long time Stranglers fan Phil Daniels.

Cheers CC.
