>If his wife was likely to be so repulsed by his stash of filth, why didn't he dump her years ago to hook up with someone more slutty?
It is not as simple as that.
Some men like two lives, one with a respectible decent wife, who they can parade to their neighbours, the other with their porn where they can lust after whoever they want, without anyone knowing.
Some men can combine the two, and I have seen couples where the male is quite happy to see some bloke shag his wife, but I, and I would guess many men, could not cope with that.
Many men are ashamed of their porn addiction, and would not, or could not, let their wife know. For some, if their wife knew it would spoil half the fun.

Porn Addiction?
Re: Porn Addiction?
>it's a pretty benign one compared to drug or alcohol addcitions, which destroy whole families.
Don't underestimate the effects porn addiction can have on a relationship or marriage, and it has destroyed marriages.
If you search in Google under 'porn addiction' you will find a number of self help pages where there are listed details of the affect porn addiction can have on families.
I think since the growth of the internet Porn addiction is being recognized as an 'illness' like drink or drug addiction.

Re: Porn Addiction?
But living 'two lives' is an inherently unstable proposition- sooner or later, they'll inevitably come into conflict.
Better to be what you really are, and live with the consequences, or try and reach a compromise- but hiding things is ultimately futile. Easier said than done, I know, but.........

oh Jesus H Christ you guys are really trying to get me to do myself in at the moment aren't you ?! I swear im only like the first rung of that exact ladder ... no....I will force myself to sleep around at uni...yes....will not end up obsessed with porn!...more so.
I think theres a kind of stifled "i could do that" attitude to men in porn that i think is locked up inside the whole porn fantasy if you like. I wonder if doing a little porn "gets it out of your system" ?

Have I told you about all those nasty STDs?
Hope you've bought a sun-hat, BTW, just in case.
And a hard-hat for the meteors.
And a fur-coat for the Ice Age.
Wouldn't want to worry you, though..........

I don't: but compared to an estimated 200 000 lives affected annually by the effects of alcohol abuse, I'm guessing it's pretty small beer, at least numerically (if you'll forgive the phrase).

I have a problem with any and all sorts of 'aberrant' behaviour being tagged with the fashionable label 'addiction', which has a fairly restricted medical usage: it smacks a little of New Age-ism.
That's not to minimise any damage that may occur either to a sufferer or their neighbours: I just don't feel it's a helpful characterisation- I can't begin to imagine what the 'withdrawal effects' of such an 'addiction' might be............

Bye the way, good posts dude. Plenty of meaty content. I was begining to fear that no one on here had anything interesting or of any substance left to say.

Re: Porn Addiction?
Don't know what to say Guilbert (but I guess I?ll think of something.) You do seem to be in a bit of turmoil.
I feel your problem is not the porn, but your own guilt. You have obviously been brought up in an environment where people were programmed from an early age to be ashamed of sex, and latterly an environment where to express any interest in the opposite sex would get you labelled as a sexually harassing oppressor of 'wimmin.' I suggest that it's not so much your problem but the attitudes of the people around you and your sensitivity to them.
In my amusingly flippant, and some might say, cruel way, I may have given the impression that these 'porn addiction' problems are in the mind of those that believe they are afflicted, and that it's their own fault for not being mentally stronger and succumbing to all the guilt crap put about by middle class ponces. But being a little more serious. I do accept that the anguish that so called 'porn addicts' feel can be real and painful. But to those not afflicted it can seem like a trifle. Irritating. One gets the uncharitable urge to slap then and say "snap out of it man." I am sympathetic to your plight. It's not porn that is the problem, it's your own personal issues with it, which may be the result of a sexually repressive upbringing combined with a higher than average sex drive.
I feel that if you could divest yourself of the guilt then maybe the old sweetshop syndrome would kick in i.e. porn is everywhere, I can dip in whenever I want, I can consume as much as I want, it's not an issue and it's not a problem. Then maybe you might find that your porno appetite subsides to a manageable level. I think that part of your compulsion may be due the fact that we feel a craving for that which we are normally denied.
I hope you can find a way to exorcise your demons Guilbert and break free from the cage of guilt you have constructed round your mind.
