Both too teutonic for anthemic purposes.
We have 'Jerusalem' unofficially, anyway.........ignoring or unaware, like most of those who sing it, the lyrics' negative take.

Flower Of Scotland is a dirge---which is why the crowd are usually about half a verse ahead of any band playing it. And why we are harping on about an event almost 700 years in the past I do not know.

As JJ says, the English have Jerusalem---the only anthem, apart from Ode To Joy, written by a genius. I still don't understand why they've stolen a Negro spiritual for the rugby (slaves working in fields, white collar types who work in offices and throw an odd-shaped ball about---yes, it makes no sense at all).

Actually Scotland could have a superb National Anthem if it wanted it. Land of the Mountain and the Flood by Hamish MacCunn (1868-1916). Not that well known but as good as anything written by a British composer.

It is a regular on Classic FM. If it wasn't for that I wouldn't know it either. It is exceptionally good though, so why it so unknown is a mystery. Can't help but think it would be more popular if written by a German!

I'm still waiting for an explanation of your Deep Purple and Hawkwind reference - you tease.
