The reason why there are some very unattractive women in European films is that top European directors, particularly in the past, have cast their films properly. If a part called for an elderly or unattractive woman a suitable actress was found. Much of the criticism of the British industry is a touch unfair. It seems to me that it is often forgotten that for decades the trade in this country operated under unreasonable restrictions. I would suggest that SOME British output now is well on a par with European stuff and miles ahead of American crap!
