I was using the word correctly. It means to evade an obligation and no offence is intended to the Welsh in general. However if I do use the word again I shall use the alternative spelling 'welch', although the Oxford English dictionary makes it clear either spelling is correct. You need to be cautious about all this political correctness nonsense. Some bafoon in the 1990's alleged that the term nitty gritty was racist. I believe a couple of people lost their jobs for using it. It now turns out that it merely refers to the ballast used on sailing ships, not the slave cargo which was alleged! You don't work for Norwich Union do you?

Thank you ghostdog. In my reply to Snake Diamond I do say that perhaps the alternative spelling is better. Both are correct according to the dictionary.

Watch out for BUPA, I had med ins with them, had a private op, had a complication and the benefit ran out, so I had to go NHS anyway to have follow up treatment, which they weren't happy with, not surprisingly. You'll find these private med crooks, have very little benefits when it comes to o/p care, consultants etc and this is where u can get fucked up, so be careful.I suggest u change your GP.
