Strange because thats where I downloaded it from as well
3 weeks ago

My norton anti-virus didn't detect anything

So assuming that AVG is correct I'v got a couple of viruses running around
and yet my computer is working perfectly

Reminds me of the spyware scam that some programs run with
You run their program they say they've detected something(which leads you to think your current programs are useless) and remove it
but at the same time they download they're own spyware/malware

So either the program from download.com has been altered corrupted
or AVG is detecting ghosts

cheers

Some detection type software warns you that your anti-virus may report an infection but you can ignore it.

I tried to delete the file svchost.exe(1 on 1) which is the infected file in the alt control delete box but it automatically shuts my pc down within 60 seconds and reboots. I have run adaware as per the instructions and it has quarantined the file but not deleted it. It is still running in the alt control delete box and when I try and delete it again it shuts my pc down.
This is beyond a joke now. How do I get rid of it apart from reformatting my pc which I obviously don't want to do. I have tired doing a virus scan on my Norton Anti Virus but it can't delete it. How it got past my firewall I don't understand. Someone please help!

You could try and see if its lodged itself in your start-up menu
For some reason uninstall & removal don't seem to go there

Start/Run..type MSCONFIG....start-up..far right....if you see it just untick it and reboot

Failing that I'd try
the experts
but only after running CW Shredder & Hijack This, both available at

The shredder should clean up any leftovers that adaware(its not perfect) has missed and hijack this will print out a log of your registry which the experts will look at and tell you what needs to be removed

I also use spybot from
Picks up certain things that adaware misses

link to merijn.org should be

Having just run CW Shredder I can say the host file you mentioned
or something very similar is catered for

Running this program should fix it-hopefully

Thanks guys but it now seems that Adaware has done the job because although it quarantined it, the item appeared in my recycle bin so I deleted it. I then ran a full Norton Anti Virus scan and it now reports no viruses. Fingers crossed because it hasn't come back since I ran Adaware ;-)
