I feel sorry for her in that she's the only one being paraded before the world's media when she is merely the lowest of the low within the command structure. But feel sorry for her as a person after what she's done . . . if that was the impression left, then I didn't make myself clear (not unusual, I know). I have no more sympathy for her than I do for those sent to face war crimes charges at The Hague (something she won't have to, of course, since the US refuses to allow its personnel to face such accusations abroad).

I have no more sympathy for her than the people who brutalised prisoners in German concentration camps. No amount of personal suffering can excuse torturing or butchering other people. I will, though, feel happier when there are a few people further up the food chain standing with her in the dock.

Good point by JJ. There's all this fuss about the treatment of the Iraqis because the press were leaked some pics. What is happening at Guantanemo, where they don't have to worry about such things? A lot of the prisoners have been in captivity for over two years without contact with the outside world. Goodness only knows what they've had to endure. Even if they are guilty of crimes, we only bring ourselves down to their level by abusing them.

She was the one stupid enough to have her pic taken, smiling away, therefore she is, in the eyes of some people, the person responsible. The equivalent of blaming the guy who wiped the windshield of the Enola Gay before it took off for blowing up Hiroshima. They'll probably decide on a colonel, if they can't get away with a major, to dish up as the chief baddie. And if he knows what's good for his pension, he'll play ball.

You're probably right. What I was suggesting was that she was a very small part of what was going on---just that she was caught in the pic.

There have been sinister things going on in that area of the world for the best part of the last 15 months or so. I'd still like to know what the story was with that Jessica whatshername. The US military claimed one thing, she said another. Propaganda seems to be in charge, and the truth, as ever, was the first casualty.
