No, not unless they're in a mental hospital and/or very very bored.
A few moments of reasonable humour amongst 1000s of hours (well, it seems like 1000s) is a poor hit-rate.
And I don't think the team-writing strategy works that well- the thing becomes just a series of loosely-connected one-liners, and smacks of trying too hard, giving a faintly desperate air.

Would you care to rephrase that?
On second thoughts: the alternative might be worse.
It's OK, officer, I'll come quietly.......will I get a cell with a nice view?

sorry last word you are correct, i use to love frasier as much as friends but i do agree with you all about certain aspects of Friends. I find the soppiness and excessive californian "like SO totally" thing rather horrible and i hate a load of chandlers crappy humour but i think underneath it they have used a shitload of good plots AND had a big social/ cultural impact. That style of comedy is used a lot nowadays and a lot of their terminology.
basically im not in the frame of mind to write 100 reasons why friends is good/great/excellent....but dont forget its glory days were a few years back now...this last series has been pretty tame a lot of the time.

Cheers. It pains me to say this, but??you?re probably right to point out the cultural impact the show has had, even if it was merely reflective (coffee shops, kidult mentality, etc.) rather than creative, and influential often means nothing more than much-copied. However, cultural significance and genuine artistic merit are two entirely different things, though that never stops certain sorts - (spit) media students usually - from equating the former with the latter. This is how Star Wars keeps topping those pointless best film ever lists, for instance (and I've obviously slipped into stude mode now, so I think I'll pack it in.)

Re: Friends finally finishing-thank god
Yes, for me the infantilism was its strongest theme- a bunch of chronological adults living in what was basically a children's home, frightened to take wing and go their own way, talking in playground patois about such world-shaking problems of Style as the Right Espresso to go with Your Gucci Belt, unutterably cutesy-poo behaviour (hugging should be made a capital offence for anyone under 30).
And of course everything always turned out right in the end, just as in kid's stories, and conrtoversy was always resolved by 'humor' and sweet reason.
Well, it did turn out alright: the damn' thing's finished, at last.
Now, I expect they'll dream up something even more emetic.

There is an alternative series coming out called 'Enemas', it should run and run.
