Rush...still going!! Of course!!! They are touring the UK this year and naturally I'm going, as a total rock geek this is more akin to a pilgrimage. It's against pretty hefty odds that they are still playing though as the drummer, Neil Peart, suffered some incredible losses in the late nineties when his daughter was killed in a car accident and his wife died of cancer within a year of that awful event. Somehow he managed to get his life back together and reunite with the band. As much as I admired him as a musician his strength of character is simply incredible.
All the blokes in Rush are at the top level of musicians, but I can never imagine any of them playing in any other band apart from Rush somehow.
Did I ever tell you I used to go to school with Matt Holland of Ipswich Town fame? Not that I can remember anything about him! Up the town!

Axl Rose is sorely misunderstood and easily written off as an asshole. What him and GNR did in the late 80s stood as the foundation of the future music to come. ie. grunge's anti cock rock stance. and axl was at the forefront the whole time pissing everyone off and making waves. kick ass. hate the rock star thing but those guys are sadly misunderstood, real musicians who were pissed off.
as for my list, cant really choose but heres who i like....
chris cornell....vocals, lyrics, guitar, drums and writing. hehe....
sebastian bach (only singer who gets my adrenaline realllly pumpin)
axl rose on stage
mike patton and mr bungle........oh fuck it im just listing my fav bands now

Cool, I wouldn't mind hearing what Clapton and Keith Riffhard sounded like together although I'm sure I've seen either photos or video of them playing onstage together but I can't for the life of me remember where or when. It might have been a Sheryl Crow gig......
Bono, what a singer. Funnily enough I was listening to the "War" album and the latest album in the car today. I noticed how Bono seems to sing less somehow these days than he did around the time of the "War" and "Unforgettable Fire" albums but still sounds awesome. They are a great band and I personally think that The Edge is a criminally under-rated musician.

My line up would have to be the old Floyd (Waters, Mason, Gilmour, Wright) performing together again (does this count?), although it got halfway there at a recent Roger Waters gig when Nick Mason joined him on stage for a rousing rendition of Set the controls for the heart of the sun, there shows from the 70's have to be checked out! plenty of great unofficial recordings out there, Toronto '75, Oakland colliseum 77, no 2 shows were ever the same.

Clapton appeared with the Stones on a televised gig on the Steel Wheels tour playing Little Red Rooster & then staying on for John Lee Hookers spot as well. Axel & Izzy also appeared. Magic stuff !
little red rooster.
