Not now, Dalek.

Cheers - reckon they're a shoe-in for series two once the Beeb has flogged series one to as many countries as possible which, I hear, is more self-contained episodes or two-parters rather than the four-parters of old. Shame. Heavy on the 'satire' as well, apparently, which doesn't bode well.

Actually, Who died a death through both poor and silly choices in most departments, and it's odd how its demise ran parallel to the emergence of similar Who-like figure - Inspector Morse. Different genre sure, but essentially the same sort of character, with the prog. all the more mature, like the viewers Who was losing.

p.s. watching an old Tom Baker series recently I was reminded of the series' best visual strongpoint - that terrific contrast between the cheap, tiny, moodily-lit studio sets, and the equally cheap, grainy, washed-out exterior filming. We won't be seeing that again I imagine. Or will we? Who knows?

Zygon but not forgotten

The decline in the programme coincided with the producer being the recently deceased John Nathan Turner. Once Colin bloody Baker and his panto dame hair and costume signed on, things looked bad. A couple of McCoy stories, where the Doctor became this mysterious ambivalent figure, hinted at the direction the show might have gone in.

Nothing could equal Blake's Seven for exteriors, alternating between gravel pits and oil refineries.

You're probably thinking of The Ark in Space, where the commander of the ark was taken over by an alien and developed green bubblewrap skin, before turning into a sort of plastic wasp type fly. ;-)
