Leaving aside Lucas' stiffness as writer/director, the real problem with this new trilogy is that it's all back story - we're all too aware of what follows and, for many fans, it's ultimately destroyed the mystique the original trilogy had. It?s no wonder AOTC performed so disappointingly at the world?s box office. He?d have been better off leaving it alone and concentrating on post Star Wars events, which I?m certain most people would?ve preferred*. Look what happened when Gene Roddenberry resurrected Star Trek with TNG - he made sure the history was shared between the characters and the viewers, thus cannily forging an immediate bond. But instead of boldly going forward, Lucas went indulgently back.
*the rumour on the net a few months back was that Spielberg will take over the franchise for the next trilogy. He might need it - business pages suggest DreamWorks sinking etc.

Everyone disses the Ewoks but they had some good stuff. There's that moment when one of them dies and, for a moment, his friend can't figure out why he isn't moving?
That's an emotional moment, a little (no pun intended) reminder that war is not a game. Star Wars could use more of them.
And some tits of course.

Spielberg will take over? Not a hope. Unless Lucas drops dead and even then...
Luca created Indiana Jones but Spielberg directed them. We're waiting for 'Indy 4' because although Spielberg liked the latest script Lucas thought it needed more work.
They're his babies, he's the guv'nor. He's not going to be farming out any more of this stuff, even to friends.

I think your spot on
In Hindsight starting in the middle was a mistake IMHO because as you say its made all the prequels virtually add on afterthoughts which makes me wonder who actually designed it that way...Lucas or the Studio backers?
Imagine LOR starting at the 2 Towers & finishing with RTK followed 15 years later with the Fellowship of the Ring
Maybe I'm being a little bit extreme but it just doesn't work FOR ME
Given that the last was made in 1983 you got to say only 3 prequels in 21 years beggars belief
cheers

The point of doing the end, then doing the beginning is that for fanboys like me, it's great to go onto forums (theforce.net/episode3 spoiler one is the best) and try and speculate what happened, how did it all begin.
One of the big problems/questions being discussed right now on the forums is in relation to the point/significance of the new title. What the hell are the Sith getting revenge for? It happened 1000 years before Ep1 and I doubt we're going to get a flashback sequence (although, wouldn't it be interesting to do a pre-prequel trilogy establishing maybe how the Sith ruled the galaxy and were then somehow (supposedly it seemed) wiped out by the Jedi, only to wait for 1000 years to seek revenge.
By doing that, then we would see what the Sith were seeking revenge for. But since this is hardly going to happen, a general audience is going to see this film and applaud it they may, but a little confused they may be that they don't fully understand why the Sith are seeking revenge.
And as for STEVEUK's remark about no tits in Star Wars. There was only one tit in Star Wars and that's Jar Jar. Man, did he muck up the mythos of Star Wars or what. He walks on some shit and that's supposed to pass as entertainment. George, it's not Carry On, its Star Wars. I needed to get that off my chest. Jar jar caused my insomnia.

3 more prequels to the prequel trilogy followed by another trilogy sequel following on from return of the jedi
Ho Hum
Expect I'll buy the DVD none the less so I can give the Trilogy(yes I own copies of the first 2) away to someone deserving

If any one has read any of the Dark Horse comics - a lot of the Sith history is told in them, how they battled with the Jedi. All dating back 100's of years or there abouts before a new hope episode IV.
Think they were called 'Tales of the Sith'.
I think it would be interesting to see a TV series about the Sith vs Jedi - many years before The Phantom Menace.
There has already been a cartoon series for The Clone Wars. 2 series so far & a 3rd one on the way.
I don't think the title is all that bad for Episode III. So it sounds a lot like the orignal title - Revenge of the Jedi (Return of the Jedi). It is forbidden for Jedi to take revenge & get angry, yet for a Sith Anger is one of the emotions that keeps them to the dark side of the force!!
Basically a Jedi should remained chilled out & focused. Where as the Sith grows in power when they seek revenge.
Did any of that make any sence? thought not?......lol

The fans got annoyed at the original Revenge Of The Jedi title because Jedi are above petty things like revenge. Looks like the Sith aren't.

A quote from Darth Maul to Darth Sidious (The Phantom Menace)
"At last we will reveal ourselves to the Jedi. At last we will have revenge"
