Just got out my copy of The Sweet - Greatest Hits and Ballroom Blitz was indeed 1973. I also remember being 13 in that year and having a massive crush on a girl who had THE SWEET inked across her school bag as was the fashion then.

I went to see Sweet at the Odeon in Birmingham back in 1973. Brian Connelly, the lead singer, had the real surname of McManus and was the half brother of TV detective Taggart (Marc McManus). Another group of that era who loved getting up to no good were the Marmalade. I seem to recall allegations that one of the group had 'filmed' a girl having sex with the other band members and it later transpired there was no film in the camera.

I recall a docu about this bloke..............he had had several heart attacks and strokes due to MANY excesses leaving him unable to walk properly. Saddest part was 'The Sweet' (he was the only original member) 'headlining' a Butlins in Bognor Regis and him still thinking he 'had it' on stage whilst being laughed at by 'laddish' audience and being pelted with paper cups of piss
I believe he died a few years back

Didn't realise the drummer died of Leukemia a few years back. He could play and look flash with it with his twirling drumsticks.
