Re: Replica shirts
Your right buttsie, it is madness, but what makes it even worse, is the shirts are made from shit material,s, and put together by robots, BUT! there must be an awful lot of pressure on parents to buy all that rubbish, if I had kids I,d deck em out in duffle coats with WIMPEY on the back, and pink wellingtons, that would soon toughen them up!
Now, where,s me Grimethorpe united scarf gone??

Re: Replica shirts
When the question of sponsor names appearing on shirts first emerged, there was an excellent cartoon of one team pissing itself laughing as the opponents ran on the pitch with "Virgin" emblazoned on the strips. It says something that no one would think anything of it now.
An example of the one-way street that is football. A number of SPL clubs were in financial trouble last year. One, Dundee FC, had ridiculous debts and the main creditor, the Bank of Scotland, decided enough was enough. Administrator called in, players sacked, others sold at way below value just to keep the club running. A fans organisation was set up and raised a fair amount of cash (though no more than a spit in the pool of debt) through a number of events.
Start of new season, club out of administration. Lo and behold, the chairman and chief executive that presided over the financial mess are still in place, and the loyal fans that fought to save the club have been hit by a huge hike in season ticket prices. And they wonder why sales have fallen!
As I said, they look on fans as cash cows.

Re: Replica shirts
All we know/guess that the markup is astronomical but thats what you would expect from a Corporate Entity like Chelsea
Wouldn't surprise me if each unit costs less than a fiver and thats on the upside
Never forget that the Sweatshop still exists in Western Society and its far cheaper than a Robot..............pure slavery when its all said and done
Reminds me of a recent TV Show in the US where the immigrants play for the prize of a Green Card...desperate people can be paid a pittance...thoroughly unethical but thats big business through & through
Then the loyal supporter forks over a wad of cash and the Wasteful Clubs(see Player Salaries) make a killing
Its a Win/Win situation until the team doesn't qualify for Europe....then all the dire financial bollocks starts AGAIN.....
When are Clubs going to learn to live within their means?
cheers

Re: Replica shirts
Did I read somewhere that Cheslki, or Merchandise United, probably both, won't allow people wearing football shirts in their restaurants and executive members areas?

Re: Replica shirts
That is VERY true at Stamford Bridge. You are allowed to wear it on the terraces and the gift shop.......but thats it!!
The West London of my youth is now on dvd
I've met the man on the street............and he's a cunt

Re: Replica shirts
No disrespect to you, Ace, or the millions of others of decent football fans who are supporting their club and expect to be treated as a valuable asset by that club . . . .
. . . . But do you ever get the impression that you'd be just as well setting up a direct debit to the club, so they can fleece you for fifty notes every few months, and wearing a plain white t-shirt with "Mug" emblazoned on the front. I'm not calling you that---I just feel that all the top football clubs are treating their main asset that way.
I feel a return thread coming on.

Re: Replica shirts
Reading your post reminds that I read somewhere a while ago that Tommy Hilfiger would not let his son wear any of the clothes that he put his name to!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
