I concur with much of the above - a dreadful mediocrity elevated to icon status by (amongst the usual media kow-towers) clueless Guardian readers for whom he represents a safe, toothless yardstick for what's 'happenin' on the streets' at the moment. And I can only assume those marking him as some sort of 'poet' have either not actually read any poetry in years, or have lost the ability to spot such crass, verbal offal. For the Jo Wileys of the world only, and I wouldn't trust her to pick me an apple.
