Correct, although I think the spelling may be Jimmy.

He was a session drummer, known to producer George Martin,
and George had just used him in a 'tribute' album caled Beatlemania
so he knew all of the songs.

He stepped in at the last minute for his fifteen minutes of fame.

Pete Best

I often consider Pete Best one of the unluckiest people ever.

He had been with the Beatles for about 2 years while they went all over
the UK (and to Hamburg) doing gig after gig.

Ringo was known to the rest of the Beatles as he drummed for another
band in Liverpool.

After Brain Epstein got the Beatles a contract to record at Parlophone,
only weeks before the start of their recording career, John and Paul told
Brain to get rid of Pete, and they wanted Ringo in.

They left Brain to do the dirty deed and Pete Best missed out on all the
success the rest of the Beatles had.

Many fans protested as Pete was very popular (and handsome) so it was
not a popular move by the Beatles.

George Martin did not know if Ringo was any good, so he hired a session
drummer for the first recording session, Alan White (who later drummed
with Yes) so it is said Ringo does not play on the Love Me Do single.

So Ringo got all the fame and money and married Barbara Bach, and Pete
Best got hundreds of free pints telling people how he used to be in the
Beatles.

I wonder if he is bitter ?
