I see, and we're now assuming that everyone in Thailand is mixed up in crime. There are criminal gangs there (as in many countries), and they are heavily involved in the trafficking of drugs and people, but they are by no means representative of the ordinary people of Thailand.
Read some of the accounts of people who have returned to the UK after the tsunami, and you'll see them tell of acts of generosity by the Thais.
Incidentally, the government of Ethiopia 20 years ago (and probably now) was corrupt. It didn't stop us trying to help the starving millions there.
