Experiments in space I understand but the rest seems like game playing fill in the blanks for no real benefit

if humans didn't have a thirst for knowledge we'd still be living in caves. Space exploration may give us clues as to where we came from and more importantly where we are going. For example there is evidence that Venus used to have similar conditions to Earth but the hellhole it is know is the result of runaway global warming.

As for the cost I agree with Deuce, it's peanuts in a global sense. I bet all the past explorers were questioned as to the usefulness and cost from Columbus to Shackleton
