Why don't you just keep your belly to yourself. I hope you have rubber strips down the sides of your doors because its people like you opening your doors too wide who cost me hundreds in paint jobs every year.

Do you wear a flat cap and drive a Datsun Stanza in spotless condition except for the doors that you've opened into other peoples cars? I seem to see this guy everywhere!

Pray, what the fuck are u talking about, Steven? You seem a bit disorientated. If folks are scratching your doors it's because the frigging parking bays are to narrow and they can't open their frigging doors wide enough to get out of their motors, innit? They're having to press their doors onto your motor in order to squeeze out - thus causing the damage you allude to! Opening one's car doors 12-18 inches to try and squeeze out is pretty far from being too wide, now is it? Talk sense man. Hey, look, just go outside to you car and open the door to get in, as you normally would. Now, just look how far your door has opened - it's a lot wider than the supermarket 12-18 inches, isn?t it?...Right, well then, I rest my case....Jeez.

This post isn't about 'people like me' opening their car doors to wide, this post is about supermarket parking bays being too narrow - a point that seems to have escaped you. Or maybe you were suggesting that I personally (and not the general public) have been following you into supermarket car parks for the past few years - in order to park next to you and try to gratuitously squeeze out of my motor, and in doing so, scrape my car door onto yours?

Officer Dibble - One needs patience when dealing with the general public.

Always park between the two most expensive motors you can find. Both will be unlikely to fling the doors open and dent their valuable machines.

OK then.
In your opinion should there be a double sized car park, or half as many parking spaces?

Ah, now you?re entering into sensible debate. A good point. Well, seeing as most supermarket car parks are half full most of the time widening the parking bays wouldn't cause too much of a problem (they wouldn't have to be twice as big, 33% larger would do the trick fine). But yes, car parks everywhere need to be somewhat larger to accommodate the same amount of parking spaces with the larger, more agreeable, parking bays. If I were head of planning I would insist that new developments feature ample parking space for residents, employees and potential visitors alike. This would cut down on the general stress and aggro of trying to find, and then squeeze into, a parking space no end. If a planning application were submitted that did not fit my 'ample easy parking' criteria I would tell the applicant to (politely) naff off and find a bigger plot of land. I feel that this is just one thing that could be done to improve the quality of our lives. But John Prescott and those public sector fuckers seem intent on packing us in like rats and ramping up our stress levels. Don't stand for it.

Don't know if it's just where I live or if it's common across the country but here if someone wants to park "there" they'll park "there". Doesn't matter if it's on a double yellow, half on half off the path, causing obstuctions or whatever they park just where they feel like.
The words "morons" and "lazy bastards" comes to mind.
In fact the County Council could save thousands in tax payers money by not bothering to paint the yellow lines in the first place.

Never going to happen

The supposed cost associated with car parks will always mean they'll be cramped to a minimum amount of space. One Hotel built on prime forshore land in OZ had to provide some 450 parks which cost $AUS46,000 each
because of the ludicrously high value of the land

A classic case is our Westfield Shopping Centre at Marion
During the busy times X-Mas,January Sales & Easter because they didn't make enough car parks(No high rise car park for the biggest shopping centre in the Southern Hemisphere)they've done a deal with the local Council to use the surrounding Streets(3 deep in every direction) as car parks

It means the Home Owners in those streets can be fined for parking outside their own houses...bizarre

Money Rules supreme

So you legislate to set a requirement for the provision of ample easy parking for whatever development is proposed. Every developer will have to jump that same hurdle; it just means they will have to jump a bit higher. This would add to costs, and that would then be passed on down the line in higher parking fees, merchandise costs, and so forth. But if it means a less stressful motoring and living experience then i recon that's worth paying a bit more for.

Sounds like logic which is why it will never happen
especially given that most decisions made by councils are simply about
how much more revenue will it bring in

Think your more likely to see the Blair Government set up a "Ministry of Happiness" before any councils start passing laws to improve the car parking experience of its rate paying peasants
