Mart , mars bar were a measure of value for years. However in the mid 80s they were replaced by the big Mac. The story was that you took the avaerage salary for any country and divided it by the priceof a Big Mac the result woyuld roughly be the same no matter which country , how try don't know.

I thought the Bigmac was used in the "How many minutes/hours does the average earner have to work to buy one" comparison.
There is a UK book called something like "How much did it cost" that has very interesting statistics.
