"Either way all that wealth that the Royals have won't suddenly be dispersed amongst the wider population "

That?s right Deuce - Gordon Brown would simply squander it on chav single mothers and corrupt incompetent, despotic, governments in Africa.

You're right about the tourism too - the royals put on a constant show that fascinates the whole republican world. And at times of coronation, marriage, and death, they put on the greatest show on earth. We are fortunate enough to have the most important and revered Royal family in the world ? revered it seems everywhere except here at home (where familiarity breeds contempt). As you say, the show they put on generates many more millions than they get in wages and I fear Britain would be an even greyer place without them. I don?t understand those who want to throw the baby out with the bathwater. I don?t understand their spite and mean mindedness.

Beheading is not a French privilege. The English beheaded one of Charles's ancestors in 1649. He was also called Charles.

There will always be Rich,Middle & Poor People

End of story as far as I'm concerned

Envy & loathing of those with all the material goods is a pointless exercise

We shouldn't be surprised that those with very little are being suckered into loathing those with a lot given the amount of brain washing advertising that
permeates nearly every facet of our daily lives

Rich & Famous doesn't = Happy & Healthy IMHO

sorry to be blunt deuce but what utter bollocks!!

any effect upon uk tourism (let alone, the economy as a whole) would amount to a pinprick - if that! there was a survey of visitor opinion a few years back as to the reasons why people came to the uk, and the vestigial ruritanianism afforded by the royals was a negligible factor.

they were far more interested in all that london had to offer (the gateway to the rest of the country for the majority of those visiting) along with the delights of the countryside, as well as the vast amount of heritage that we have to offer: country houses/churches/cathedrals/old stuff in general, etc.

ask yourself this: how many people, indifferent to the attractions of france, would feel more inclined to visit on the off chance of seeing, in situ, a descendant of louis xiv? my estimate: roughly none.

Utter Bollocks...thats my pet subject ;-)

I'd agree I've EXAGGERATED the financial effect their demise would have
by a HUGE amount

Still to say it would have none is debatable and will only be known once it happens.I guess it could depend on the Tourist your asking as well
