Re: books
Stephen Donaldsons latest installment of his Thomas Covenant series is well worth a read if the reviews are anything to go by
His Bibliography is at
Makes most Fantasy writers(take note Robert Jordan) look like amateur hacks

Re: books
Donaldson is a strange creature----never uses four simple words when one obscure one will do. And rape seems to be a recurrent theme. Did like the Covenant novels, and his Gap series was excellent---once it took off.

Re: books

Re: books
Thats the major drawback from these long winded stories that take more than a trilogy to read
Take katharine kerrs Celtic Deverry series...11/12 books in lots of 4 so far
I find most of these authors write good stand alone books but their Epics are like wading knee deep through a bog
It seems the fans are starting to turn on the issue of Knife of Dreams(release Oct 2005) vs the New Spring Prequels(2nd PRQL January 2006)
Writing the story from 2 ends at the same time has got to be the ultimate piss take
Maybe its time to head on over to the Comic Strip
cheers

Re: books
Thats why I always keep my Dic. handy
I sense the use of the obscure big words is primarily to make people stop & think about what their reading at that moment, rather than just mindlessly turning page after page like junkie taking a hit
I can recall reading both those series from start to finish without putting the books down apart from the pesky annoyances of Work & Sleep.
Stangley I find no need of my Dic. when reading Alan Dean Fosters
Spellsinger or the Damned Series(Squid ruling the universe-what a concept)
I'm possibly talking out of my ass but then you know what my memory is like
when recalling things further back than last friday
cheers

Re: books
from what i've read on other forums he has said he won't write any more of the prequels til he's finished the series. The Lan/Moiraine prequel was a bit of return to form I thought. Some of the later books seemed to lose their way somewhat

Re: books
He's the first I've heard of writing a prequel while still continuing with the main saga
I've never read the 1st prequel but might be tempted if I can find it in my local second hand bookstore.
Hopefully I'm not the only only hoarder of books who's just cleared his small collection(600)out
Think I've re-read 1 book in the past 30 years,Lord of the Rings...rather pointless holding onto them
cheers
