Shearer the bloke may not be a barrel of laughs - but he has had an illustrious career.
Being by far the best player in a championship winning team.
Being England's best striker for a decade - how much more illustrious can an England striker's career be?
Being probably the best striker in Europe at his peak in the mid-90s. He was certainly a world class player at that time.
You would call Zidane's career outstanding and better than Shearer's - you would call Henry's career disappointing on the international front.
Yes he fouls a lot and he tries to ref every game - but he's had a long career and at his peak he was an outstanding player.
