Thats what I thought but the reason for the original posting was I tried that with an orange sim and it wouldnt accept the sim until I had called orange and registered the sim to the IMEI number on the phone therefore making it completely unusable even for inbound calls.

Okay I stand corrected on that as it's obviously changed.

However why can't you just give a false address? How are they going to know it's not your home address?

Interesting response from Vodafone.

I bought a Vodafone PAYG SIM for ?3 to take advantage of their 'Stop the Clock'.

I phoned Vodafone on their 08700 number prefixing with 141 to hide any identity. Having negotiated the automated options the operator I spoke to confirmed registration was not essential.

I pay by a top-up card.

i used to work for orange - they want your details for marketing, but you can just give them false details of course, they arent bothered - but make a note of what you tell them in case of problems

I've just got a PAYG phone and i've also got a contract phone with them, they ask you to register but you dont have to. They've got the best coverage in UK anyway. Jims got Orange and his phone always has rubbish coverage

Maybe i miss the point totally but why?

Why do you have something to hide?

What are you using the phone for that is so bad you are worried it might be traced back to you?

Do you smoke too many drugs and suffer with paranoia ;)

Did I do the wrong thing in registering my phone??

Whats that they are at my door waiting to come get me????

Hmmm.......

If you read Jays original post Tricky then you will realise why he doesn't want to register the phone.

He's in the business of selling mail order R18 Dvd's which isn't legal hence he wants to be anonymous.
