I respect you speaking your mind on subjects (and understand your feelings about religion expressed in the Jackson post), but you cannot make pig ignorant comments like that, firekind. Anorexia is not "can't be bothered eating"---it's a mental illness. I've seen photos of sufferers who look worse than the people liberated from Belsen and Auschwitz, and they are still convinced they are fat.

Do you think an anorexic doesn't have friends and family telling them the harm they're doing to themselves? It's an addiction, and all addictions are diseases: alcohol, tobacco, drugs, dieting. It takes a great deal of mental strength to overcome any of them.

They don't see themselves as thin. It's an image problem in their heads. Whatever you do, show them a photo, push them in front of a mirror, they will only see the negative image they have of themselves.

No offence taken, and I've been equally scathing about druggies and alkies in the past. But it is a disease, not a conscious, reasoned decision.

The only way you would understand it is if you had it.
