Is all this drug taking business really such a big shock to the general British public? It's probably true that the City dealer type snorter probably gets more lenient treatment from the justice system than your average crack addict in some inner city estate. And it's almost certainly true that a lot of people in the "lairy" show off professions (showbiz, fashion, advertising, meeja etc) will think doing the odd line is quite acceptable.

Ian Blair, Metropolitan Police Commissioner, was relating the story of personal responsibility and how people must realise how it doesn't stop at the ?30, there's a penalty to pay ... and how he'd recently been to Jamaica and seen communities torn apart by drug use/misuse ... bet the trip was on the taxpayer and he stayed in a 5* hotel and did more partying than work - great excuse for a free holiday.
