I seem to remember that these murders were highlighted by a particular newspaper who wanted to put pressure on the chief of the Met (or whatever the top London copper was called those days). That, coupled with the hoax letter from a man calling himself Jack the Ripper which caught the public imagination gave the incident the publicity boost it needed to be memorable - and the lack of a court case has kept the conspiracy theorists going.
But this half-remembered stuff is from a Ripper walk I went on a long time ago.
It really is a bit strange that these particular murders should stay famous for so long, whilst others fall out of memory.

"I know J.Ripper did not muck about, but that was in those days... now we have beheadings abroad for blood .
I fancy trying to produce more thought provoking porn, and this may have been the spark"
Dude you are REALLY starting to freak me out. The Ripper and porn are surely two subjects destined never to cross paths..I hope.

Sickert painted a series of paints based on the Camden Town Murders which happen 19 years after the Ripper murders! Again we have to thank Stephen Knight who tells us that there are visable clues in those
paintings that link to the victims and the Ripper!
