In most cases those who abuse minors and/or enjoy "kiddie porn" have, more often than not, been abused themselves - a horrible vicious circle.
Interestingly (depite there not being much available about him) I read that Gary Glitter was raised by his grandmother and spent a lot of time in care, which may well explain the dirty sod's inclinations.
