I still suspect that you have sasser or a variant.

Try:

shutdown -i

In the Remote Shutdown Dialog that opens, do the following:

Click Add, type your computer name into the Add Computers dialog box, and then click OK.
In the "Display warning for" field, type 9999.

Type the following text in the Comment box:

Delay Lsass.exe shutdown.

Click OK

Do the virus scan.

Don't forget to update your OS via Microsoft, if it it sasser causing this you will need a patch.

I just had another thought thinking of firewalls.

If you have a 3rd party firewall (ie a firewall you purchased or downloaded) make sure windows firewall is turned off. Two firewalls running at the same time will cause conflicts and both will run irregularly.

The "blocked DCOM Expolit SXB and LSASS Exploit SXB" says to me that you have some kind of trojan and as blocked, your firewall is working.

Avast! is not a bad choice.

Try either of these trojan scanners:

Sygate Trojan Scan
Windowsecurity Trojan Scan

They should identify what it is if you have one (the later is probably better IMHO.

If and when you get sorted Ivor, download firefox if you haven't already. Using Internet Explorer is like walking around Iran with the Jewish star on your chest.

Ivor, just a thought but this could be something as simple as the fan on your cpu not cooling as well as it should, this has happened to me before on a couple of pc's. A way to test this theory is to take the side off of the pc and aim a desk fan or something like that at the inside of the pc case, start your pc up and if it doesnt shut down then your fan is probably knackered.
