Animal maybe....but what about Materazzi? Saying "An ugly death to you and your family!" to someone who'd just learned their mother was ill that very day is uncalled for!

I mean, surely in the middle of a WC Final after playing nearly 2 hours of football does that sentence pop into you're head. The Italians must have known about Zidanes's mother and planned it. Either that, or Materazzi is totally sick!

I assume you are referring to the lip reading. Has that been independantly corroborated?

The link I posted gives some info (italian lip reader). Dunno if he's independant or not. You don't headbutt people without provocation -if you're a balanced individual- so I'm guessing there's some truth in it.

I mean has any other lip reader confirmed that news item story?

there are two very different versions of what he said depending on which lip reader was employed by which news agency
news at ten said theirs suggested he said 'an ugly death to you and your family' - apparantly a standard italian insult
radio five's said 'you son of a terrorist whore'

which is right I dunno, but the wildly differing versions would suggest some lip readers are milking this to make a few quid

Not that I know of.....

Zidane was on french television earlier today and said that Materazzi said something bad about his mother & sister. He wouldn't go any further.

All we can assume so far is that there was a provocation & a reaction.

Maybe Fifa's investigation will get to the truth................then again, maybe not.

On the news the other night (can't remember which channel), they claimed Materazzi had said something akin to "I fucked your mother last night" and then "She is an Algerian whore". We may never know.

Having played for Juve, he must of been on the end of infamous Italian sledging before. You're a professional footballer, deal with it, take no notice.

They're only words, Materazzi doesn't actually mean what he is saying, he's just winding him up.

Zidane played right into his hands. The best way to deal with this provocation is put the ball in the back of the net and then sledge your defender back for letting you score.
